The Columbia Speed Flying Pro Les Arcs finished today with the freeride contest, an impressive display of technical qualities. The winner, as judged by the riders themselves, is Antoine Montant. The second is David Eyraud, the third is Vincent Reffet ex-aequo with Mattias Roten.
The winner also becomes the Speed Flyer of the Year, the best rider in both disciplines : the speed cross (parallel slalom run on tuesday) and the freeride.
The freeride contest unfolded on the Arandelières slope, on the Aiguille Rouge in Arc 2000. Each competitor had a check run before the race and a single run on which to be judged. The judging criteria were: the choice of the line, the fluidity of the run and the technical level.
The riding zone featured couloirs and cliffs (in a quick first section) and wide fields of powder (in the second section).
"After a timed race on tuesday with the speed cross, we wanted a judged contest to show all the facets of Speed Flying. Today I really enjoyed the riders who really skied the snow, who could take advantage of the terrain, find the hidden snow pockets and who did the show because this is the future of this sport" says Dino Raffault, the organiser.

Antoine

Antoine Montant demonstrated his qualities both as a pilot and as a skier in a quick run with daring trajectories and an original line. "I abandonned the line I originally planned, because it was too dangerous, so I opted for a more straightforward option. My aim was to ski the snow as much as possible", he explains, commenting his winning run.
